Is Degaussing effective on Solid State Drives SSDs?
No. Degaussing works on magnetic media. SSDs use flash memory chips and must be physically destroyed (shredded) to guarantee data erasure. We always recommend shredding for all SSDs and flash media.
What happens to the hard drives and tapes after they are degaussed?
Once the data is completely erased, the media is rendered unusable. We securely transport the degaussed hardware for appropriate, certified WEEE recycling unless you request subsequent physical shredding.
Is Degaussing safer than physical destruction shredding ?
Degaussing is the highest security method for magnetic media because it instantly erases all data before the media leaves your sight. Shredding offers the highest guarantee for irreversible physical destruction, which is often done after degaussing.
Does Degaussing comply with major data security standards?
Yes. Our certified degaussing equipment meets global standards (like DoD and NIST guidelines) for sanitisation, making it a fully compliant solution for high-security data erasure in the UK.
Can I still read the data on the drive after the process?
No. The high-powered magnet permanently corrupts the low-level magnetic structure on the platter or tape. The media will no longer function, and the data is 100% irrecoverable.
