Do you shred the entire machine, or just the internal drive?
We can perform either service. For maximum security, we recommend shredding the entire device. Alternatively, we can remove and shred just the internal hard drive and memory, leaving the shell for conventional recycling.
What is WEEE recycling, and why is it important for printers?
WEEE stands for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment. It is the mandatory UK framework for recycling e-waste. We ensure all shredded printer materials are handled through this certified channel to protect the environment.
Why do printers and scanners need to be physically shredded?
Many modern printers and copiers contain internal hard drives or non-volatile memory that retains an image or copy of every document they process, requiring destruction for GDPR compliance.
Can’t we just use the device’s factory reset function?
Factory resets may clear settings but often leave recoverable data remnants on the internal hard drive. Physical shredding is the only method that guarantees the absolute, permanent destruction of that stored data.
Is there a need to remove the toner cartridges or ink?
For safety and environmental reasons, we request that you remove toner or ink cartridges before the destruction, though our units can handle most components. This ensures proper WEEE recycling of the plastic and metal.
