Interactive whiteboard disposal for schools

A retired interactive whiteboard can be a large electrical item with several separate parts: the display or board, a connected computer, a control module and mounting hardware. Work out what is included before booking a collection.

Identify the equipment and its data

Record the make, model, size and location of each board or display. Check whether the installation includes a built-in operating system, removable computer module, attached laptop, local storage or account sign-in. Do not assume that every board stores data, or that removing the visible screen also removes every data-bearing component. Ask your IT team to identify what must be reset, erased or removed before the equipment leaves.

Plan safe access and removal

Note whether a unit is wall-mounted, fixed at height or difficult to move through corridors and doorways. Confirm who is responsible for disconnecting and taking it down, whether special lifting arrangements are needed and how accessories will be counted. Separate devices that the school intends to keep from those authorised for disposal.

Agree the collection and records

Ask the proposed provider to confirm whether they accept this type and size of equipment, how any data-bearing module will be handled and what handover and completion evidence is available. Keep an inventory and reconcile it against the collection receipt. For a larger refresh, our multi-site disposal guide explains how to coordinate several campuses; our printer guide covers another often overlooked device.

Tell us the number of units, dimensions, access details, attached computers and postcode so we can discuss an available route. Ask about a school collection.
